I have been a part of a trial testing the effects of a new revolutionary drug for the past 3 years. It aims to correct the underlying cause of CF by 'tricking' the defective gene into working correctly. It has shown very positive results and has recently been approved by the FDA. It shows significant improvements in lung functions and reduces the amount of exacerbations. It only treats CF patients with the G551D gene. However, they are now beginning trialling a similar drug that will treat patients with the DF508 gene. Onwards and upwards ! :)
